Thomas and Susannah had at least 11 children who include Rebekkah, Molly, Daniel,

2.  THOMAS2 CUMBY (THOMAS1) was born Abt. 1775, and died Aft. 1850 in Mecklenburg Co., VA.  He married (1) AGNES WEATHERFORD January 12, 1804 in Halifax Co., VA, daughter of JOHN WEATHERFORD and MARTHA SUBLETT.  She was born 1780, and died Bef. 1833 in VA.  He married (2) MARTHA CURTIS TUCKER October 07, 1839 in Mecklenburg, VA.  She was born Abt. 1809, and died Aft. 1870.

3.  GEORGE A.3 CUMBY (THOMAS2, THOMAS1) was born Abt. 1805 in Campbell Co., Va., and died September 1884 in Mecklenburg Co., VA.  He married (1) PERMELIA ANN BURROWS WELLS April 12, 1834 in Mecklenburg, VA, daughter of HENRY WELLS and MARY UNKNOWN.  She was born Abt. 1814 in N.C., and died in Mecklenburg Co., VA.  He married (2) LUCY ANN TUCKER Aft. 1870.  She died August 13, 1884 in Mecklenburg Co., VA.

GEORGE A. CUMBY:
Alternate spellings of surname found in records: Cumbie, Cumbia, Combin, Cumbee,
Cumber, Combey. 
George bought his farm  on Jan. 15, 1838, paying $190.95 cash for it. He purchased it
from Wm. Hurt.  It was known as the Tucker's Tract.

Geo. A. Cumba died September 1884 at age 79, son of Thomas Cumba.  Place of
birth Campbell Co., VA.  Cause of death "tincture"

Second marriage of George A. Cumby to Lucy Tucker, states he is the son of
Thomas Cumby and his wife Agnes.

7.  JOHN HENRY4 CUMBIE (GEORGE A.3 CUMBY, THOMAS2, THOMAS1) was born July 13, 1841 in Mecklenburg Co., VA, and died March 16, 1927 in Richmond, VA..  He married WINNIFRED R. THOMPSON February 22, 1866 in Brunswick Co., VA, daughter of CHARLES THOMPSON and WINIFRED COLEMAN.  She was born November 1843 in Warren Co., NC.

JOHN HENRY CUMBIE:

John H. Cumbie served as 1st Lt., 21st Regt., 2nd Bde., Army of Northern Va.
He served from June 1861 until the end of the Civil War.  Records list as John H.
Cumbia.  John Henry is also buried under the name of Cumbia.

Note:  Personal visit to Cumbia family cemetery by James H. Thomas Sr. June 3, 2000
failed to locate the grave of Laura Cumbie.  Information which was obtained from a
Brunswick, Co., Va. resident suggested that John Henry's first daughter Laura was
buried in wooded location.  The grave was stumbled upon by hunters in the early
1990's.  This cemetery contained numerous unmarked graves .  Marked graves
included the following:
John A. Cumbea.  b.  Dec 24, 1897 d. Jan 9, 1952; his wife Ophelia M. Cumbea
b.1893 d. 1963.  Also found were  markers that read J. H. Dameron and a Flint family. 
The Cemetery is located in a heavily wooded and overgrown area approximately 100
yards off county road 633 about one mile off county road 609 in Brunswick Co., Va.

The Bill of complaint of L.W. Rainey, John H. Combea and Winnifred R., his wife, W. E. Hammonds and R.A. his wife, G.P. Thompson, Mary Thompson, M.W. Thompson, C.G. Thompson, Adelia Thompson, B. W. Thompson, Lucy L. Thompson, Mary L. Thompson and Thomas J. Stone and Sallie W. his wife most respectfully represents:
That on the 4th day of May 1863 Legrand M. Tucker and wife conveyed to Charles B. Thompson and Lewis W. Rainey a tract of land lying in the County of Brunswick and supposed to contain 444 acres that the deed conbeying said land was admitted to record at the December term 1865 of the County Court of Brunswick County.  That one third of this land belongs to your complainant Lewis W. Rainey and two thirds thereof to the said Charles B. Thompson who has recently departed this life intestate leaving your complaintants Winnifred R. Cumbea, R. A. Hammonds, G. P. Thompson, Mary Thompson, M.W. Thompson, C.G. Thompson, Adelia Thompson, B.W. Thompson, Lucy L. Thompson, Sallie W. Stone and Joe and Webster Thompson who are infants .  That the land has been held by said Charles B. Thompson and Lewis W. Rainey from the time of the purchase until the death of the said Thompson and while each one of them cultivated what was estimated to be their respective portions no division has ever been made of the property and your complaints now file this bill in order that Commissioners may be appointed to divide the land and allot one third in value to Lewis W. Rainey and two thirds in value to his heirs of the said Charles B. Thompson.  That on 15 day of May 1878 the said Lewis W. Rainey made a deed of trust conveying his interest in the land to secure a deal due to Mary L. Thompson and she also desires a division of the land and is a party plaintiff to this suit.
In consideration of and as your complaintants have no remedy at law they pray that Joe Thompson and Webster Thompson infant children of Charles B. Thompson by some descreet person as their guardian as litem may be made defendants to this bill.  That Commissioners be appointed to divide the land as above set forth and that a reasonable fee may be allowed to R. Turnbull for professional services in this cause.  And that it please your Honor to make all such orders and decrees as justice and equity may require and grant to your complainants general relief in premises and as in duty bound they will ever pray be.
