Wilbur was as much the teacher as Nancy. Many of her school children would not see adulthood. She did not stop at the classroom either. She allowed them to call her at home, she visited them in their homes, and she helped some to get a trip to Disneyworld through the Make-a-Wish foundation. She planned and worked on special projects for them, wrote stories for these kids, and she would take them to places like McDonald’s. She attended their birthday parties. I have never seen anyone so patient and devoted to these children as she was. For many reading, writing or anything that we all normally learn in school was either physically or mentally beyond them and for those that could, she would spend months patiently teaching them to form letters and write their names. Success in even the smallest task was a celebration and Wilbur was there! And many of the other Teddy Bears were there to help.
Wilbur with his friends were in the classroom to teach, to tell stories and to comfort them.
