William Buie and Margaret (McIver) Buie of Moore County, North Carolina
The compilers speculate that William Buie, who lived near Buffalo Creek in what is now Lee County, North Carolina, was the son of Archibald Buie of Gum Swamp and Catherine Shaw for reasons given in the discussion of Family Group U. Family tradition states that William was one of three brothers who settled the upper waters of the Cape Fear River. A William Buie received land by grant in Moore County as early as 1790. Named an elder in Buffalo Church in 1804, he also served the church as a musician. William Buie married Margaret McIver and her tombstone record in Buffalo Church Cemetery indicates she was his second wife. Census records demonstrate children by the previous marriage, but the compilers have not been able to identify these children in Moore or Lee County records. Mysteriously, William Buie reportedly left his family when his children were quite young, went west to seek his fortune, and was never heard from again.
Significant information on this family group was contributed by Dr. Roderick Mark Buie, Sr. of Greensboro, North Carolina to Bernard Buie in 1950, and more recently, by Mrs. Fred Thompson of Greensboro. Neal and Sarah Buie of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania
The descendents of this family group are unique since the progenitor Neal (or Neil) Buie was not a resident of North Carolina, although some family members believe Neal was originally from North Carolina and moved to Pennsylvania during the Revolution perhaps for political reasons. This group was originally researched by William McC. Blue and Mazie M. Blue of Eagle Springs, North Carolina, and in 1969, Mrs. Mary Alice Buie Nance published an excellent and thorough genealogy.

Neal and Sarah's son, John Buie, married Mary Cox in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1797. They moved to North Carolina by ship and settled on Mill Creek in the
western part of Moore County in 1798. The compilers believe that John was related to the other Buies who lived in Central North Carolina, however, they cannot establish a connection. Substantiating this theory is the fact that John C. and William C. Buie attended estate sales of Buies living in Cumberland County.

John Buie and Archibald Buie the Piper of Cumberland County, North Carolina
Archibald Buie the Piper first appears in early North Carclina records when he bought 91 acres of land on the northeast side of the northwest branch of the Cape Fear River in Cumberland County in 1755. In subsequent tax records, he is listed living in the Barbeque District on the Upper Little River. Piper Archie died in 1806 in Cumberland County leaving his property to his brother John's children. The compilers have not been able to identify John and Piper Archie's parents, but do believe the brothers were born in Scotland and came to the Upper Cape Fear region of North Carolina sometime prior to 1755. Piper Archie never married, but John's sons Malcolm, Archibald and John moved to Tattnall County, Georgia. Apparently Malcolm and John moved first about 1800 followed by Archibald around 1808. John Buie and Flora (McDuffie) Buie of
Upper Little River, Cumberland County, North Carolina
John Buie first bought land on Upper Little River in 1772 from Archibald Patterson. Later land acquisitions by grant and purchase culminated in a sizeable estate. In some records he is referred to as John Buie "Junior"; however, this designation was probably used to distinguish him from John Buie who lived on Raiford's Creek.
John Buie of Upper Little River married Flora McDuffie and they lived on the south side of the river adjoining Archibald Clark. The compilers have not determined John's parents, but do beleive he is descended from the very early immigrants to the Cape Fear region. John's descendents, particularly the Pattersons, were extensively researched by Adm. Alex M. Patterson of Ralaigh, North Carolina and set forth in his book Highland Scots Pattersons of North Carolina and Related Families and the compilers are thankful for his kind assistance. Family Group K
Daniel and Susan Buie of Smith County, Tennessee
Other than the listing in the 1850 Smith County, Tennessee census, there is little personal information regarding Daniel Buie and his wife Susan except that they lived near Dixon Springs. For reasons mentioned is the discussion of Ja6, the compilers believe that Daniel is most likely the son of John Buie of Robertson County, Tennessee; however, due to largely circumstantial evidence leading to this assumption, the compilers are assigning to Daniel his own family group.
Most, if not all, of Daniel and Susan's children eventually lived in Grant County, Arkansas. Much of the credit for the compilation of this family group is due to Rex Reynolds of Prattsville, Arkansas and also Homer Buie, Arlington, Texas, and Lelia K.
