Malcolm Buie of North Carolina and Davidson County, Tennessee

Malcolm Buie came to Tennessee settling first in the southern part of Robertson County in 1815. He does not appear in the 1820 Tennessee census and is presumed to have died shortly after arriving at the new home. His descendents are listed in the 1820 Davidson County census. The compilers believe that Malcolm's wife was named Sarah and he was the son of Gilbert Buie who died in 1799 in Cumberland County, North Carolina.
The compilation of the early descendents of Malcolm Buie is based upon available Davidson and Robertson County census records and deeds and admittedly not all of the records mentioning these Buies were canvassed. Some associations were made by exclusion. Therefore, more research is necessary to further delineate this group.

Family Group II
John Buie of Moore and Randolph Counties, North Carolina

The three brothers and two sisters presented here, John, Allen, William, Mary, and Ann lived near Big Juniper Creek in what is now Lee County (then Moore). In 1844, a John Buie of Moore County deeded 230 acres on Big Juniper to his wife Catherine which upon event of her death would belong to his son William. In 1851, the heirs of William Buie, deceased, i.e Allen Buie, John Buie, Ann Buie, and Mary Buie agreed to allow Mary to have 280 acres on Big Juniper which formerly belonged to William Buie. Therefore, the compilers believe that the parents of these siblings were John and Catherine Buie of Moore County.
Also living in the Juniper Creek Area in 1850 were William Buie, b. ca. 1797 N.C., and Mary Buie, b. ca. 1802, N.C., probably his wife. Moore County census records indicate they had no descendents. Next to the William Buie household and in close proximity to Daniel Buie and Laney (Dixon) Buie (Family Group A) were *[Archibald Buie, b. ca. 1792, N.C.; Sarah Buie, b. ca. 1797, N.C.; Elizabeth Buie, (THIS IS ACTUALLY ISABELLA BUIE NOT ELIZABETH) b. ca. 1799; and Jennet Ann Buie, b. ca. 1823, N.C.] In her Moore County will (probated 1849), Catherine Buie left land on Juniper Creek and several slaves to her daughter Jennet Ann. Also, in 1855, Sarah and Isabella Buie granted their niece, Jennet Ann Buie, several slaves and land on Juniper Creek adjoining Allen Buie which was acquired by Malcolm Buie by deed from Allen McLennon in 1810 and by land grant in 1796. Jennet Ann Buie married Aaron A. F. Seawell, a prominent citizen in Moore County.
The compilers have not established the relationships of these families living in the Juniper Creek area, but believe they were closely related. Perhaps a bio-graphy of Aaron A. F. Seawell, if one exists, could establish the names of Jennet Ann Buie's parents.
The descendents of John Buie of Moore and Randolph Counties were supplied by Mary Margaret (Buie) Williams of Franklinville, North Carolina, who as a child personally knew some of John Buie's children. The compilers are most grateful for her assistance.  Descendants of John Buie

* INFORMATION ON THIS HOUSEHOLD

Family Group JJ
William Alexander Buie and Barbara Isabella McLean of Cumberland, Harnett and
Moore Counties, North Carolina

William Alexander Buie first appeared in North Carolina census records
in 1850 when he was listed in the following household in the Western Division of Cumberland County: Duncan M. Buie, age 26; William J. Buie, age 24; Mary Buie, age 22; Allen C. Buie, age 21; Isabella M. Buie, age 16; William A. Buie, age 23; Duncan O'Hanlon, age 14 Mary S. O'Hanlon, age 14; Charles McCallum, age 23; and Laney Rising, age 19. In 1860, William Alexander Buie was listed with Margaret Johnson, age 50, in Moore County next to the family of Duncan D. Buie and Margaret Lee (Shaw) Buie (Family Group A).  The descendents of William Alexander Buie believe that his mother was Elizabeth Buie, daughter of a Gilbert Buie, and his father was a man named Johnson, but for unexplained reasons, William used his mother's maiden name. Research could not confirm or dispute this relationship.
It may be appropriate here to include a discussion of the Buies listed with William Alexander Buie in 1850 and some of the other Buies who lived in Harnett County.
Duncan M. Buie married Mary Armstrong, daughter of Farquar Armstrong, in 1850
in Cumberland County. He reportedly lived in Fayetteville as late as 1871 and no descendents were located. He should not be confused with Dr. Duncan McFarland Buie (GGal).  William J. Buie was single in 1870 and lived with Allen C. Buie. A William J. Buie (b. 2-25-1825, d. 2-5-1893 m.1 Annie Ella McGeachey, m.2 Martha McGeachy) is buried in St. Pauls Cemetery; however, the compilers are not convinced they are the same William. Martha (McGeachy) Buie was living with a daughter, Anna B. Buie (b. 3-1883) at Lumber Bridge in Robeson County in 1900.
Allen C. Buie was born June 28, 1828 and died November 20, 1893 and was buried at Cameron Hill. The 1880 Harnett County Census for Johnsville lists Allen Buie, age 52; Sylva Buie (wife), age 30; Jennie Buie (dau.), age 14; Henry Buie (son), age 12; John Buie (son), age 10; Polly Buie (dau.), age 8; Mary Buie (dau.), age 6; Daniel Buie (son), age 4; and Florence Buie (dau.), age 2. There is probably a mistake in the census since Allen C. Buie was single in 1870 and there is no trace of these children in the 1900 census. The children are probably Sylva's by a previous marriage and bore another surname.
Isabella M. Buie married a Buhmann and had the following children a listed in the 1860 Harnett County census: Sophia Buhmann, age 6; Mary A. Buhmann, age 4; Jane Buhmann, age 2; and Fredrick Buhmann, age 5/12.
Another Buie who lived in the Johnsonville area was Neill Buie (b. 12-1822, N.C. d. after 1900). Census records indicated his wife was named Jane (McFadyen) b. ca. 1840, N.C. and they had the following children: Mary A. Buie, b. 11-1860, N.C., single in 1900; Catherine Buie, b. ca. 1864, N.C.; Isabella Buie, b. ca. 11-1867, N.C., single in 1900; Duncan Buie, b. ca. 1873, N.C.; Fannie Buie, b. 5-1875, N.C., single in 1900; and Flora E. Buie, b. 8-1878, N.C., single in 1900. Also included in Neill's household in 1900 were his grandchildren, John Buie, b. 6-1884, N.C. and Fannie Buie, b. 2-1888, N.C., undoubtedly children of his son Archibald.
Old Alexander Buie, nicknamed "Sandy" was born in 1817 and lived at McNeills Ferry. It was he and his dog Beauregard who investigated the unearthed skeleton of Red McNeill during the Civil War.
Unfortunately, the compilers could examine only a few of the Harnett County records and therefore these families, at least at the present time, are unconnected. Much additional research in Harnett Count is warranted.
The descendents of William Alexander Buie and Barabara Isabella McLean were generously supplied by Donald Nelson Buie of Sanford, North Carolina, who also aided in the research of the Moore County families. The Edgar Solomon Smith-Jennie Isabella Buie descendents were provided by Dorothy (Spence) Arnold of Lillington, North Carolina. Descendants of William A. Buie
