Personal Accounts:

Murdoch Buie, Colonsay, to Bernard Buie, letter dated 5-19-1950:
"At present I am the only man of the Buies in Colonsay.  There are three women.  My great-grandfather's name was Archibald, my grandfather Donald, and my father Hector.  My father had two brothers named Archibald and John.  There were four sons in our family to wit: Archibald, Donald, Murdoch, and John.  My three brothers went south, Archibald to Glasgow, Donald to London, and John to Edinburgh.  Hector Buie of Portobella is a son of my brother John, and John Buie of Annan is a son of Archibald.  I was born on the 13th of February, 1860, and have taken an active part in most of the public offices of the island."

Mrs. Dorothy McDougall, Colonsay, to Christine ~uie, Missouri, letter dated 12-17-1956.
"There are now no one of the name Buie in Colonsay.  I have two cousin Buies in Colonsay, but married to MacAllisters, so the name is not kept.  My grandfather's name was Hugh Buie who died in 1897 age 73.  His father's name was Archibald and his grandfather's, Donald Buie.  My grandfather had two married sisters in Canada, a Mrs. McNeill and a Mrs. Morrison."
