Generation No. 1

1.  JOHN1 BUIE1 was born Abt. 1750 in Bladen Co., NC (now Cumberland Co.), and died 1823 in Cumberland Co., NC.  He married FLORA MCDUFFIE.  She died Abt. 1820 in Cumberland Co., NC.

Notes for JOHN BUIE:
John Buie first bought land on Upper Little River in 1772 from Archibald Patterson. Later land acquisitions by grant and purchase culminated in a sizeable estate. In some records he is referred to as John Buie "Junior"; however, this designation was probably used to distinguish him from John Buie who lived on Raiford's Creek.
John Buie of Upper Little River married Flora McDuffie and they lived on the south side of the river adjoining Archibald Clark. The compilers have not determined John's parents, but do believe he is descended from the very early immigrants to the Cape Fear region. John's descendents, particularly the Pattersons, were extensively researched by Adm. Alex M. Patterson of Raleigh, North Carolina and set forth in his book Highland Scots Pattersons of North Carolina and Related Families and the compilers are thankful for his kind assistance. Also, significant information was contributed by Mrs. Amanda McNeill McFarland of North Carolina and Mrs. Leola Rayburn of Sumrall, Mississippi.

Children of JOHN BUIE and FLORA MCDUFFIE are:
i.SARAH2 BUIE, b. Cumberland Co., NC; d. Abt. 1837, Cumberland Co., NC.  Never married.
Sarah willed her property to John Buie Patterson and Mary Patterson, children of John and Margaret Buie Patterson and to Catherine, daughter of Duncan and Mary Buie Patterson.  Also, she wished her property to be "sold to interest" and subsequent interest paid to Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church.

ii.DUNCAN BUIE, b. Cumberland Co., NC.
The wording of John Buie's will inferred that his son Duncan was in ill health and was not expected to marry or live for much longer period of time.  Adm. Patterson, after comparison of several pertinent document, speculated that Duncan died in or about 1837.

2.iii.MALCOLM BUIE, b. Abt. 1770, Cumberland Co., NC; d. Abt. 1845, Henry Co., TN.
3.iv.MARY BUIE, b. Cumberland Co., NC; d. Abt. 1820, Cumberland Co., NC.
4.v. MARGARET BUIE, b. Cumberland Co., NC.
vi.JOHN BUIE, b. Abt. 1775, Cumberland Co., NC; d. probably Robertson Co., TN; m. SARAH
     UNKNOWN.
In 1826, John and his wife Sarah, then living in Robertson County, Tenn., signed a receipt for property left to him by his father.  The 1830 Robertson County census shows John Buie, age 50-60, with one male age 5-10, two males, ages 10-15, one male, age 15-20, one female, age 10-15, and one female age 30-40.  The compilers have attempted to reconstruct the family of John and Sarah Buie of Robertson County.  In the obituary of William L. Buie in The Macon County Times, Macon County Tennessee, William L. Buie, born February, 1825, was listed as the son of John and Candance Buie of Robertson County.  A letter from Buie men in the Confederate Army to relatives in Smith County mentioned a "Link Buie" who the compilers believe was William L. Buie.  Therefore, Daniel Buie (Family Group K) was closely related to William L. Buie and they were probably brothers.  Also, John Buie (Family Group W) born in 1820 in Tennessee, married Susan Redfearn in 1842 in Robertson County.  The compilers propose that John, William L., and Daniel were probably brothers, although there are several discrepancies.  For example, Daniel is listed in census records as being born in Tennessee in 1814 and undoubtedly John Buie was living in North Carolina at that time.  Also, the name of John's wife, Sarah or Candance, is not resolved.  The descendents of John Buie (Family Group W) claim that John's brother William was never married and died in Adairville, Kentucky.  Since there are many unanswered questions about the family of John Buie of Robertson County, the compilers are assigning the proposed sons, John and Daniel to their own family groups and await further substantiation.

5.vii.ARCHIBALD BUIE, b. Abt. 1775, Cumberland Co., NC.
viii.NEILL BUIE, b. Cumberland Co., NC
No further information is available concerning Neill Buie and the compilers have not been able to locate his descendants, if any exists.

ix.CATHERINE BUIE, b. Cumberland Co., NC
The wording of John Buie's will infers that Catherine was not married when the document was written in 1822.  No further information is available.

6.x.DANIEL BUIE, b. Cumberland Co., NC; d. 1817, Cumberland Co., NC.
