Archibald and Sarah Smith were married in North Carolina and in 1817 were listed as charter members of Union Church. In 1825, John Buie, Sr. wrote about Sarah's demise: "Sarah died in child birth, the child is living; we raised it by hand ourselves, and is now, almost as great comfort and satisfaction to us as her mother was. She has never went to school, yet, by her own industry at home, and a little assistance, she has learned to read tolerable well. Sarah left four sons and a daughter besides her. They are living to themselves, a half mile from me. They are well and are doing tolerable well. Their father has married as I suspect you heard and is living about a mile from me. He and his family are Well."  The compilers have only been able to trace the last daughter, Sarah Ann, and  her brother Archibald, Sr. All of the other children were born in the 1800-1810 era according to census records. A son may have been D. C. Smith and perhaps a daughter Ann who married C. C. Watson. Union Church records show a John and Catherine Smith who had two children: Catherine, b. 1817, and John, b. 1-25-1819, and there are other Smiths mentioned in Jefferson County Records: however, the compilers have not been able to connect them to Archibald, Sr. and Sarah.

After residing inSouth Carolina, Daniel and Margaret moved to Jefferson Co., Miss. and were counted as charter members of Union Church. The 1820 Jefferson Co. census lists a Daniel Baker with four sons and no daughters; however, the compilers have been able to trace only one son. Rev. C. W. Grafton wrote of the Bakers of Union Church "These men were all industrious and pious ....... They were society builders and church builders. They always had comfortable homes and plenty of this world's goods. They were hospitable and generous and no one ever went to the homes of the Bakers that did not remember his visit with pleasure ."
