Gilbert received 160 acres located on the south side of the northwest branch of the Cape Fear River, a portion of which he sold to Daniel McLean in 1804. Gilbert lived in Moore County, and by 1820 he had moved with his brother William to the headwaters of the Big Bigby River in Maury County, Tennessee where he was recorded as having two males and one female, ages less than 10 and one male and two females ages 10-16 in his household. Gilbert was listed as age greater than 45. Maury County records contain several Buie's who are not descendents of William Buie (Ma5). Daniel Buie married Elanor Levin in 1824. Cornelius Buie married Mary Young on 9-28-1833 and moved to Texas (see Family Group EE). Daniel and Cornelius could belong to the Hardin and Wayne County Buies. Benjamin F. Buie and Thomas J. Buie also lived in Maury County and although possibly descendents of Gilbert Buie, they may have previously lived in Davidson County and were descendents of Malcolm Buie (see Family GroupHH). Benjamin F. Buie married Mary Spear in Lawrence County in 1850 and was a newspaper journalist in Maury County. Thomas J. Buie, b. 2-29-1828, Tenn., d. 7-18-1860, married Mary D. Craig, 9-5-1847, Lawrence County and had two children, Martha V. b. ca. 1855 and John W. b. ca. 1858, m. Laura Ramsey, 1887, Lawrence Co. Thomas J. Buie must have been a close relative of the William Buie descendents for he is buried with many of them in the Pleasant Garden Cemetery.

Generation No. 2
2. ALEXANDER2 BUIE (DANIEL1) was born Abt. 1770 in Cumberland Co., NC, and died May 1818 in Moore Co., NC. He married MARGARET UNKNOWN. She was born Abt. 1778 in NC, and died Aft. 1850 in NC.
Alexander received land on the east side of Upper Little River and also 50 acres on Jumping Run "where he now lives". Alexander's 1818 will, probated in Moore County, directed his land on the northeast side of Upper Little River to be equally divided between his wife and children when his youngest child became of age. Alexander's widow Margaret and her family attended the Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church. None of the children were married in the 1850 census of Moore County, and are presumed to have left no descendents. In Daniel McLean's 1838 Cumberland County will he mentions his sister Margaret Buie leading the compilers to speculate that her maiden name was Margaret McLean.
